We all know that making time for yourself outside of work is crucial. Yet, I often wonder if work-life balance is real or just a made-up term coined by wellness gurus. As hard as I try, I can’t ever seem to stop the responsibilities from piling up, one on top of the other. Lately, I’ve been living in a perpetual state of burnout, and I’m starting to doubt I will ever escape it. The “quiet cracking” workplace trend is proof I’m not the only one feeling this way.

Obviously, we’re all under an immense amount of pressure. The work world is changing faster than the speed of light, thanks to advancements in automation and evolving workplace landscapes. And as we push ourselves to keep up, career experts warn that it could come at the cost of our mental health and, potentially, our employment.

If you’re feeling the heat of the workplace right now and all of this is sounding a little too familiar, you might be on the brink of quiet cracking, too. Ahead, I’m sharing everything you need to know about quiet cracking, including what it is and why it’s so common in the workplace right now, its potential consequences and warning signs, and what to do if you’re experiencing it yourself.

What is “quiet cracking”?

“Quiet cracking” refers to the phenomenon of employees gradually disengaging from work as they struggle with feelings of anxiety, burnout, or a loss of professional purpose. Over time, this leads to unhappiness at work. Worse, because you’re so unhappy, doing only what’s required to get through the workday becomes the benchmark standard. Unlike quiet quitting, though, this isn’t an intentional or conscious choice. Alison Campbell, the founder of burnout prevention company unBurnt®, says quiet cracking stems from deep emotional exhaustion.

MEET THE EXPERT

Alison Campbell is the founder of unBurnt®, a company on a mission to prevent burnout by addressing the root causes of chronic stress at work. With nearly twenty years of experience, Alison built her career across finance, ecommerce and HRTech, eventually to Chief of Staff & Head of Strategy and Analytics at a $1B+ global company. But after years of accepting exhaustion and overwhelm as normal, a health scare was the catalyst to pause and reflect on how we operate inside our modern, always-on workplace.

When you’re running on empty emotionally, you automatically go into protection mode and distance yourself from whatever’s draining you. In this case, you’ll stop volunteering for assignments, interacting with co-workers less, and so forth. With time, you become totally checked out.

Why is quiet cracking happening in the workplace?

According to new research from TalentLMS, 54 percent of workers reportedly experience quiet cracking on some level. This begs the question: Why is quiet cracking so prevalent in the workforce right now? Three major culprits are behind this trend:

Employees are feeling uncertain about their careers

First, employees no longer know what their next move should be. “Clarity about the future is evaporating,” Campbell explained. Previously, climbing the career ladder was pretty straightforward. Layoffs, the economy, automation, and mass organization restructuring are making workers question what’s expected of them and if their job still offers growth, or they’re at risk of losing it to AI. According to Campbell, this lack of clarity and concrete direction is making employees fear what comes next, and this fear is hardening into disengagement at work. Instead of taking risks and putting themselves out there, they’re flying under the radar and merely doing what’s asked of them to protect their job.

Workdays are relentless

Second, Campbell says workdays are now “relentless.” Trends like the “infinite workday” have thrown the concept of work-life balance out the window. We feel compelled to be available ‘round-the-clock because we don’t want someone else to take our spot, but the kicker is that answering emails and taking meetings outside of work hours places you in a perpetual state of burnout. Over time, this exhaustion wears you down, and you begin quiet cracking as a result.

Employees feel like their options are limited

Finally—and perhaps most importantly—employees feel like their options are limited. Executive Coach and Chief People Officer at JustWorks, Jeri Doris, says most people are simply grateful to have a job right now. Therefore, they’re willing to put up with a lot more at work, regardless of how it impacts their mental health. “They’d rather be unhappy in their current job than unhappy and unemployed,” she said.

Jeri Doris
MEET THE EXPERT

Jeri Doris is the Chief People Officer at HR technology company, Justworks, and a certified Executive Coach. She’s navigated leadership in the tech and HR space while bringing a uniquely sustainable approach to high-growth startup environments both in the US and Europe. She has previously held positions at Rakuten, Groupon, Deloitte, GE, and more.

How could quiet cracking affect your career?

What makes quiet cracking particularly lethal is that it can have long-term impacts on your career. When you feel this way, you don’t do much more than show up and go through the motions. Consequently, you become invisible in the workplace and won’t be on anyone’s radar for a promotion, big assignment, or other development opportunities.

Furthermore, the Founder of Broad Perspective Consulting, Barbara Palmer, says motivation becomes elusive with quiet cracking. After all, when you’re “cracking” under the weight of your emotions and work responsibilities, all of your energy goes into simply keeping your head above water rather than performing well. You can’t shine at work if you’re treading water and going through the motions, and it’s hard to summon the energy needed to execute tasks well when all that matters is making it through the day. No matter how you spin it, quiet cracking halts your professional progress since it forces you to work from a place of disposition.

Barbara Palmer is the Founder of and Top Broad at Broad Perspective Consulting, where she utilizes her 30+ years of executive-level experience to empower women and help them rise to their full potential. She is also a certified facilitator of the Fair Play Method, a unique training program that works 1:1 with individuals and couples worldwide seeking support with balancing the workload at home.

What are the warning signs of quiet cracking?

Although burnout is one of the driving forces behind this trend, being burnt out isn’t a warning sign of quiet cracking. Typically, burnout is a visibly acute state of exhaustion; we wear this exhaustion on our faces, are more prone to having a meltdown over something small, and so forth.

Quiet cracking, in contrast, is internalized. According to Campbell, this is why it manifests subtly initially. For example, you might continue delivering on your assignments but stop bringing new ideas to the table or contributing to team meetings. Or, you might continue finding ways to dodge additional responsibilities and create excuses to decline invites to company events.

Of course, this behavior isn’t alarming in isolation because we all need time to reset and recharge. But it’s alarming when it becomes a pattern since it signals you’re becoming more removed from work and retreating further into yourself. Likewise, consistently feeling unmotivated and disinterested in work, or steadily dreading it, are also red flags.

How to re-engage if you’re experiencing quiet cracking

If you’re experiencing quiet cracking, “the most important thing to do is make sure it doesn’t lead to resentment and impact your ability to do your job,” according to Doris. She explained that it hinders career progress once it passes the point where you’re able to remain professional, so it’s important not to let it get that far. To prevent this from happening, Doris stresses keeping your personal and professional lives separate. Avoid looking at and responding to emails or scheduling meetings and calls when you’re off duty. Filling your free time with activities you love, new hobbies, and plans will make it easier to actually log off. Plus, venting to your friends and family will help release pent-up frustrations.

Talking to your employer about your professional goals and where the opportunities, if any, lie in the company can be beneficial. It might be uncomfortable, but having this conversation will give you more clarity on the potential direction your career can move in, either in or outside of that organization. If it’s the latter, you can start making moves to secure employment elsewhere. Likewise, keeping your resume and cover letter up-to-date, staying in touch with the market, honing your personal brand, and nurturing and growing your professional network can also be helpful. This will give you a professional safety net to fall back on and, in turn, make the idea of leaving or losing your job less overwhelming.

Ultimately, quiet cracking signals that something in your professional life needs to change. Taking the steps above will allow you to get back in touch with yourself and your career and shake quiet cracking for good. When it comes down to it, being proactive and preventing burnout by making time for yourself and being transparent with your employer about your goals will keep you grounded and on track.

The Easiest Way to Build a Gorgeous Website, According to a Web Designer https://theeverygirl.com/squarespace-review/ Wed, 17 Sep 2025 14:45:52 +0000 https://theeverygirl.com/?p=555377 Squarespace Review The first time someone paid me to build their website, I was sitting on my dorm bed, juggling a design

The post The Easiest Way to Build a Gorgeous Website, According to a Web Designer appeared first on The Everygirl.

]]>

The first time someone paid me to build their website, I was sitting on my dorm bed, juggling a design brief, a half-eaten Cup Noodles, and about 15 open Chrome tabs. I wasn’t a computer science major; I was a design student who lost sleep over fonts and knew just enough coding to get by (thank you, MySpace). It started as a way to make extra cash, but I quickly fell in love with the process. There’s something so satisfying about organizing content and making it not just functional, but beautiful.

Like a lot of beginners, I hit a wall early on. I had ideas, but I didn’t have the coding skills to bring them to life. That changed when I discovered Squarespace. Suddenly, I could make custom changes—everything from layouts to design details—without needing to know how to code. Since then, I’ve built 32 websites, every single one on Squarespace. Spoiler alert: I’m not switching anytime soon.

What is Squarespace?

Squarespace is a website builder that lets you design and launch a professional-looking site—no coding required. With sleek templates, intuitive drag-and-drop tools, and built-in features like blogging, e-commerce, and analytics, it makes the whole process feel less like tech setup and more like creative play.

It’s the platform I reach for because it handles the backend stuff seamlessly, so I can stay focused on design. Whether you’re a total beginner or someone who just wants to save time, Squarespace gives you everything you need to build a site that looks custom, fast.

Why I recommend it

Whether you’re building your first website or designing for a client, Squarespace makes it easy to get started and even easier to make it look great. I always begin by wireframing the homepage—a rough sketch using placeholder text and images to block out the layout. Squarespace makes this step super approachable, even for beginners, with tools that help you see your ideas come to life without any coding.

You can also save sections as reusable blocks, which saves time and keeps everything consistent. Once the layout’s set, I just swap in the real content and polish the design. The backend is so intuitive that most clients can manage their own site after a quick tutorial. And if you want more customization, it’s there. I’ve built collage-style banners and custom layouts myself, no developer needed.

How to build a site on Squarespace

If I were building a new site tomorrow, here’s exactly how I’d approach it:

 1. Choose a template that fits the vibe. Palmer and Clune are some of my go-tos for clean, modern layouts.
 2. Wireframe the homepage with placeholder text (Lorem Ipsum is your friend!) and visually block out the structure.
 3. Save key sections as reusable blocks. This keeps your design consistent and makes it a breeze to build out new pages without starting from scratch.
 4. Add real content and brand elements like color, fonts, and imagery.
 5. Preview and tweak the mobile version. Since that’s where most people will view your site anyway.

My favorite Squarespace features (and how you can use them)

Once you’ve got the basics of your site set up, customization is where the fun really begins—and Squarespace gives you tools that anyone can use to make a site feel professional and unique. Here are a few standout features you’ll want to know about:

 • Mobile Editor View: Since most visitors will be on their phones, you can preview and adjust the mobile version of your site so it looks just as good as desktop—no extra tech skills required.
 • Built-In Payments: Whether you’re selling products, offering services, or taking deposits, you can set up secure payments directly on your site without third-party apps.
 • Scheduling (powered by Acuity): Perfect if you’re a coach, consultant, or small business owner—clients can book and pay for appointments in one place, saving you time.
 • Analytics & SEO Tools: Even if you’re not an SEO expert, Squarespace shows you what’s working—like which pages get the most traffic—so you can make smarter decisions about your content.
 • Reusable Content Blocks: Create things like testimonials, contact forms, or CTAs once, then repurpose them across multiple pages to keep your site cohesive and polished.

With these features, you can run almost every aspect of your business in one place—whether that means showcasing your work, selling products, offering services, or sharing content.

My advice for beginners

Building a website can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re not a designer. But trust me, you do not need a design degree or any coding experience to start with Squarespace. I actually encourage my clients to DIY their site first. It helps them see what’s working and what isn’t, and gives them a clearer sense of what their brand really needs.

Sometimes, they end up loving what they built and never hire a designer. That’s a total win in my book. Start simple. Open a Google Doc and outline your site: what pages you need, what content goes where, and how users should move through it. Ask yourself:

 • What does my ideal visitor need to see first?
 • What questions or hesitations can I address right away?
 • What’s the most logical order for my content?

Once you have that map, pick a template, plug in your content, and adjust things until it feels like you. And remember, websites aren’t meant to be perfect on day one. They’re meant to grow with you.

TL;DR

I started building websites in college with no formal training, and now I’ve designed over 30 sites using Squarespace. It’s the one platform that lets me turn creative ideas into custom, professional websites—without needing to hire a developer. From reusable content blocks to built-in SEO tools, it’s easy to use and powerful enough to grow with you. If you’re just starting out, it’s honestly the best place to begin.

22 Cozy Hobbies to Try This Fall https://theeverygirl.com/cozy-hobbies-to-try/ Wed, 17 Sep 2025 14:18:29 +0000 https://theeverygirl.com/?p=385489 cozy fall hobbies to try If you ask me, fall is not only a season—it’s a state of mind. Even if temps are still warm

The post 22 Cozy Hobbies to Try This Fall appeared first on The Everygirl.

]]>

If you ask me, fall is not only a season—it’s a state of mind. Even if temps are still warm (or dare I say hot), there is a mental shift that happens every year once September rolls around. Fall is about the pep in your step that comes with the start of a new school year and the sudden urge to redecorate your space and reset your routines. It’s also about embracing all things cozy, especially when it comes to leisure time. If summer hobbies revolved around being outside and soaking up the sun, fall hobbies are about staying in and cozying up—regardless of the weather.

If you’re looking to switch up your downtime or you just want to try something new (while wearing your comfiest loungewear, obvi), read on for 22 cozy hobbies that are perfect to start in the fall.

1. Try book binding

If you’ve ever watched book-binding videos on TikTok, you know how mesmerizing the process can be. It’s a fantastic hobby to try if you love reading and want to make your book collection feel extra special. You’ll need a few supplies to get started (and a healthy dose of patience), but the results will be so worth it. If you’re a perfectionist like me, practice with some thrifted or sale books first before diving into your precious collection. Inspiration is everywhere, so get on Pinterest and start saving some ideas.

2. Learn to bake sourdough

If you’re ready to take on a hobby that is full of trial and error, try making a sourdough starter and baking your own bread. You’ll probably fail a few times (or a lot of times) because sourdough is a finicky thing, but that’s what makes it fun—it’s truly a challenge! The smell of baking bread gives off such a nostalgic and warm feeling that’s so cozy and perfect for the fall season.

3. Start an herb garden

While outdoor gardening is more of a warm-weather activity, you can tend to an herb garden this fall, right from the comfort of your home! I mean, who doesn’t want access to fresh basil for pasta at all times? It’s a great way to garden on a smaller and more controlled scale. Pick your seeds, and research what type of light and care your herbs need to grow. From there, it’s all about staying consistent and paying attention to what your plants need.

4. Learn a new language

Dropping temperatures means spending more time inside—and what better way to spend your time than learning a new language? Select which language excites you the most and gather some resources. Language workbooks, websites, and apps like Duolingo are all great ways to start learning. As your vocabulary expands, watch foreign films and YouTube videos in your chosen language to dive in on a deeper level.

5. Learn how to cook

One of the best parts of cooler weather is the warm, decadent recipes made from seasonal ingredients. Creamy soups, rich pastas, pumpkin-and-butternut squash everything—the options are endless. Crack open a fall cookbook (or scroll through our vast recipe collection) and choose a few recipes to try throughout the season. They can be as simple or as elaborate as you like, and by the time winter rolls around, you’ll hopefully have some new cooking chops to show off during the holidays.

In the digital age, scrapbooking has become something of a lost art, but it’s a wonderful way to preserve memories while tapping into your creative side. Print out some of your favorite photos from 2025 and start by creating a page for each month. By next year, you’ll be grateful you took the time to create a tangible way to revisit your memories.

7. Complete an activity book

Back in the day, one of my favorite pastimes was diving into a word search, crossword, or sudoku puzzle book. Now, my routine has shifted to the daily NYT games, but nothing quite compares to the thrill of a classic activity book. If you’re looking to reduce screen time and pick up a hobby that exercises your brain—without leaving the couch—this is an excellent choice.

8. Get back into reading

Fall reading inspires comfy armchairs, soft throws, and oversized hoodies—which sounds like the perfect vibe to me. Reading is a suitable hobby for any time of year, but fall is a great time to curl up with a book, especially if you didn’t get a chance to dive into any beach reads over the summer. Not sure where to begin? Here are some cozy fall book recommendations to get you started.

I’m all for vegging out on the couch after work, but sometimes it’s good to put away the screens, especially if you’ve spent the workday in front of a laptop. Playing board games is an ideal after-work hobby you can do by yourself or with friends, no phones required. Monopoly, anyone?

12. Try candle or soap-making

Some of the best hobbies you can do at home involve creating something. This time of year, why not try your hand at making candles or soap? Candle-making is a great way to upcycle jars or any pretty glass containers (thrift stores are full of them!), and homemade soap is perfect for cozy baths on chilly nights. There are tons of kits out there with all the tools you’ll need to get started! Keep your creations for yourself, or save them for the holidays to send as DIY gifts.

13. Pick up needlework

The word “needlework” might make you think of Victorian-era women in sitting rooms—or maybe just your grandma—but I’m here to tell you that this old-school hobby is worth a shot. Knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and punch needling are all great ways to keep your hands busy and create something beautiful this fall. There are so many fun patterns and prints to choose from, as well as kits that’ll help you get started. Plus, you can start making your own scarves or knit blankets for the upcoming winter season.

14. Start bullet journaling

I’ve been an avid journaler since elementary school. There’s something so therapeutic about jotting down your thoughts, hopes, and daydreams onto paper. While there are tons of different journals and prompts to choose from, I keep going back to bullet journaling. A journal with blank pages allows you to pick and choose your own prompts, and a bullet journal gives you the freedom to design your own pages as well. You can go full out with markers, stickers, and scrapbook paper, or keep things simple with just a pen and your thoughts. I personally love Zebra pens and stick with simple headers instead of elaborate layouts, but the beauty of bullet journaling means your journal can be exactly your own.

15. Channel your inner artist with painting

No need to be a pro when it comes to painting! To keep this hobby relaxed and easy, choose a paint-by-number kit to follow along with. You can also, of course, let your creativity run wild and dive into a blank canvas if you prefer. Don’t want to paint a canvas? Buy a few taper candles, and paint tiny designs like leaves and pumpkins on them for cute, homemade seasonal decor.

18. Press some fall leaves

The changing leaves are one of the best parts of fall, and leaf-pressing can help you preserve that beauty long after they’ve fallen to the ground. There are a few methods to choose from, but one of the easiest ways to press a leaf is to place it between newspaper or wax paper and place a heavy stack of books on top of it. You can also submerge your leaves in glycerin to preserve them even longer. Pressed leaves look beautiful in a shadow box or frame, and it’s a great DIY home decor project.

19. Make mulled wine

Most of these cozy hobbies go perfectly with something warm to sip on. Tea, coffee, or cocoa are perhaps obvious choices, but making mulled wine is also another great option that could even be considered a hobby in and of itself. Take the time to perfect your own recipe by experimenting with different combinations of red wine, brandy or Cointreau, fruit, spices, and sweeteners. Place your ingredients in a saucepan or slow cooker and put on medium-high heat. Once it gets to a simmer, cover and turn the heat on low for at least 15 minutes, then enjoy a cup of your warm, delicious creation.

I have fond childhood memories of doing puzzles when I was snowed in from school, so this hobby just screams coziness to me. If you really want to get into it, invest in a puzzle mat you can roll up when you’re done puzzling for the evening to maximize your space.

If you’re already an avid reader, creative writing might just be the best new hobby to pick up for fall. This no-cost creative outlet can be a great stress reliever, and there are tons of different ways to get started. Try your hand at writing poetry, craft your own short stories, write fan fiction based on a favorite book or show, or find some creative writing prompts online to use as inspiration. Whatever you decide to write, make sure you have a cozy set-up to do it in—candles, light background music, and a mug of something warm are all encouraged.

If you’re part of the gut-challenged club (I’ve begrudgingly been a member since 2015), protein powders can be public enemy number one (protein bloat is a real thing). But there’s a new contender that’s trending for its lighter, gentler-on-the-stomach, and tastier qualities: clear protein. Just when we thought we’d heard and tried it all with protein, the new supplement is giving its counterparts a run for their muscle-building abilities. Said to be easier to digest and more refreshing than traditional protein shakes, clear protein is designed to mix like a sports drink (it gives fruity vibes), yet still serves up all the muscle-repairing perks. But how does it really stack up against the competition? Here’s what RDs say.

Experts Consulted

At The Everygirl, we believe that wellness advice should be grounded in accurate, science-backed information to ensure our readers can make informed decisions about their health and well-being. That’s why we prioritize consulting trusted, credible experts—so every piece of content is both reliable and empowering.

HELEN TIEU, RD

Helen Tieu is a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator, and founder of Diet Redefined where she helps busy professionals achieve sustainable weight loss without feeling restricted, and while improving their health. She provides expert commentary on nutrition, healthy eating, and lifestyle topics.

SARA HAAS, RDN

Sara Haas is a registered dietitian nutritionist, working as a freelance food photographer, recipe developer, writer, public speaker, and consultant dietitian/chef. Her work has been featured in publications such as Eating Well Magazine, Shape Magazine, The Huffington Post.

DR. FEDERICA AMATI, PhD

Dr. Federica Amati is Head Nutritionist at ZOE and holds a PhD in Clinical Medicine Research. Her approach focuses on improving overall dietary quality throughout the life course, using food as the best tool to transform health. She is also the author of Recipes for a Better Menopause and Sunday Times Bestseller Every Body Should Know This.

What Is Clear Protein?

As Helen Tieu, RD, a registered dietitian and founder of Diet Redefined, put it, clear protein is a protein supplement typically made from whey protein isolate that’s been processed to reduce its viscosity, resulting in a clear, light drink rather than the usual thicker, creamy protein shake. Because it’s a type of protein that comes from whey protein isolate, Sara Haas, RDN, a registered dietitian nutritionist, cookbook author, and recipe developer, explained that it has undergone further filtration to remove almost all carbohydrates and fats, leaving a high concentrate of protein (it’s about 90 percent protein versus the 80 percent in whey protein).

What Are Its Benefits?

Easier to digest

Drinking protein the standard way can be a chalky, gas-inducing pill to swallow. But clear protein, thanks to its more pure form and low fat content, easily dissolves in water and is absorbed quickly, making it suitable for people with digestive concerns, Tieu said. Haas added that since it’s typically lactose-free, clear protein might be a good option for individuals who are lactose intolerant.

High in protein

While clear protein is low in fat, carbohydrates, and calories (ideal to help with weight management and blood sugar management), Tieu said it delivers 20-25 grams of high-quality, complete protein per serving to support muscle gain and maintenance.

Light and refreshing

After a hard workout, a heavy protein shake made with regular powders may not sound appealing or quench your thirst. Clear proteins, on the other hand, provide a crisp, juice-like texture and taste, which may be preferred, especially in warmer weather, Tieu noted. And because it’s offered in various flavors, clear protein may appeal to more people who are put off by the thick, not-so-great-tasting consistencies of the conventional stand-ins or get bored with the same taste.

How Does It Compare to Whey Protein?

The most noticeable differences between clear protein and its more old-school alternatives are their look, consistency, and taste. Since clear protein has a lower pH, which makes it more acidic and soluble in water, it produces a transparent, fruit-flavored beverage, rather than a creamy, opaque shake. Haas also pointed out it’s less gritty and mixes more smoothly with liquid than whey protein because of the purification process used to make it (which removes the carbohydrates and fat).

As for whether clear or whey protein comes out on top, Dr. Federica Amati, head nutritionist at ZOE, said it really depends on your goals: “Clear protein tends to be higher in protein but lower in carbs and fat. So, if you are trying to bulk up, standard whey powder may be best. If you are lactose intolerant or prefer the taste, clear protein might be a better option for you.” Tieu agreed that it’s subjective: “Clear protein made from whey isolate can be just as effective as regular whey protein supplements since they are made from the same amino acid profile. However, it depends on the brand and how much protein it provides per serving. [Clear protein is] not necessarily ‘better’ compared to other protein supplements—it’s more so an option available for those that prefer the taste of it.”

What to Look for in a Clear Protein Supplement

Whatever your on-the-go protein preference, Haas advised being a label reader and checking for any added ingredients, such as fillers, sugar, or artificial colors and sweeteners, when shopping for one. Seek out the guidance of a registered dietitian, and if you’re managing any specific health conditions, consult your healthcare team before trying any clear proteins. If you’re ready to give clear protein a shot, Tieu recommended choosing one with whey protein isolate as the main ingredient (if your aim is to gain muscle), at least 20 grams of protein per scoop, and third-party testing certifications such as NSF and Informed Choice for purity and label accuracy. “Taste can vary, and it can take a few tries to find a brand that you enjoy!” she forewarned.

Dr. Amati echoed that it’s always best to look for products with the fewest ingredients and third-party testing. That said, “You’re better off consuming higher-protein foods, like fish, white meat, beans, nuts, eggs, dairy, and seeds,” Dr. Amati emphasized. “While very few people need extra protein, nearly all of us are deficient in fiber, so adding these real foods will give you the best of both worlds.”

No matter how much of an early bird or optimist you are, there will inevitably be days when you wake up on the wrong side of the bed—that’s where the beauty of a morning routine comes in. Having a solid a.m. regimen can provide a sense of control (anyone else a perfectionist?), give your brain a break from decision fatigue, and set the tone for the day ahead; it’s the science-backed way to have more energy, productivity, and positivity. But how you start the day doesn’t have to be elaborate or anything revolutionary. It can simply mean taking the tried-and-true basics from what we know from psychology and wellness to make an achievable ritual. Cue “The Miracle Morning.”

Popularized by host of the Achieve Your Goals podcast, Hal Elrod, and his 2012 productivity book, The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM), The Miracle Morning is a six-step morning routine designed to level up your life. According to Elrod, it’s “the fastest way to wake up every day and create the life you’ve always wanted,” and the best part is that you don’t have to be a morning person to make it happen. All it takes is adopting six habits—or S.A.V.E.R.S., as Elrod refers to them—after you get up to feel less stressed and more motivated. But what is it exactly, and how truly miraculous is it? Ahead, the full rundown of “The Miracle Morning.” Plus, tips for how to implement it into your life.

“The Miracle Morning is the fastest way to wake up every day and create the life you’ve always wanted.”

The Six Steps of The Miracle Morning

1. Allow for silence

Our lives are filled with so much noise and so many distractions that we often forget to check in with ourselves until we’re on the brink of losing our sh*t. While apps like Calm, Headspace, and Open can be helpful guides if you choose to meditate, you can start by simply setting aside time to do five to 10 minutes of focused deep breathing. If that still feels out of reach, look for ways you can savor silence throughout the morning; it might be while you’re sipping your morning coffee, brushing your teeth, or even walking to the mailbox.

Whatever quiet activity you choose, it allows you to sit with your emotions and work through them, kicking off your day feeling calmer and more grounded. Plus, it can boost creativity and release stress and anxiety, so you’ll feel less overwhelmed even when you have a lot on your plate. Repetition is key here.

2. Choose a personalized affirmation to set the tone for your day

Affirmations work to rewire your subconscious mind and help release limiting self-beliefs, which is why they’re a crucial step in The Miracle Morning. But for the practice to make a real difference, picking an affirmation that’s tailored to you rather than the generic “I am beautiful” or “I am enough” phrases is a must. To find an affirmation that resonates, think about your goals, beliefs, and desires. For example, “I am a smart and successful [insert job title], and my work is helpful and meaningful,” or “I have worked hard for my success, and I deserve to be recognized for my achievements with a promotion.” Once you have your affirmation down pat, repeat it out loud to yourself or write it down and place it somewhere you’ll see throughout the day.

3. Mentally rehearse what you want to achieve

The method of visualization involves picturing what you want in life and placing yourself in that mental image. It increases optimism, releases anxiety, improves decision-making and problem-solving skills, and manifests your goals because you’re vividly imagining yourself in your ideal situation. Similar to affirmations, mentally rehearsing what you want to achieve allows you to subliminally influence your thoughts and beliefs, along with your habits and behavior patterns. Elrod recommends setting aside five minutes each morning to visualize your “perfect” day and witness yourself embracing it with ease, confidence, and enjoyment.

Say you have a work presentation coming up; picture yourself confidently walking into the meeting wearing your favorite power suit and delivering all the details on point. If you’re trying to become consistent with your workouts, you might envision yourself waking up Monday through Friday crushing the 4-2-1 workout method; feel the satisfaction after, bringing that image and sensation to fruition. If you need help gathering inspiration, turn to your vision board or Pinterest to get a clearer mental picture of what you’re trying to make happen.

4. Move within 1-2 hours of waking up

Exercising in the morning can boost focus and energy levels throughout the day, but according to research, it can also reduce caffeine dependence and enhance your social life. And if that’s not enough incentive, working out in the first hour of your day can also help you maintain a consistent morning routine, which in turn makes it easier to practice the self-discipline and personal development needed for success. But that doesn’t imply waking up at 5 a.m. to run eight miles or get in a serious HIIT workout before work. Instead, Elrod emphasizes the importance of moving your body to get blood flow and oxygen to your brain, whether that’s stretching for 10 minutes, retro walking, or doing a short yoga flow.

5. Read 10+ pages of a book

Curling up with a good book may be more common in the evenings, but reading in the morning has its perks: It can enhance creativity, improve concentration, and promote better sleep quality. Elrod encourages reading at least 10 pages of a motivational self-help book or religious text first thing, but if you’re not a self-help girl, even reading a fictional book bright and early can help boost your mood and stimulate learning and personal development. Then there’s reading something you love and are enthralled in first thing, which will naturally make you more excited to wake up and start your day.

6. Personalize your “scribe” routine

The last and final step in The Miracle Morning routine is scribing, which is really just a fancy name for writing or journaling. This can look like free-flow writing in a notebook, answering journal prompts, or jotting down a gratitude list before starting your day. Journaling gives you the chance to release your thoughts from your mind, but studies have also found that it can lead to better sleep, a stronger immune system, more self-confidence, and a higher I.Q.

The important part is picking the topic or exercise that you need that day. If you feel stressed, try a self-therapy sesh and set a timer to 60 seconds while you brain dump worries and to-dos. Feeling inspired? Manifestation journaling can help you tap into your best self and strategize how to get closer to your dream life. If you’re unsure where to start or find yourself stumped on what to write, give these prompts a go for some direction.

Tips for Trying The Miracle Morning

It can be as short (or as long) as you want

If you’re thinking, How can I fit six steps into my morning routine when I’m already struggling to get out the door every morning? rest assured, you can make The Miracle Morning routine as short or as long as you want. If you don’t have a lot of time in the morning, you don’t need an hour to knock out all six steps. You can do it all in the span of 15 minutes (think: 3 minutes of sitting in silence, 1 minute of affirmations, 5 minutes of movement, etc.), or pick three steps that speak the most to you and focus on those.

Perform the practices in the order that works best for you

Elrod suggests performing the six practices in any order that best suits your schedule. Here’s my take: Since I’m always the first one up in my house, I savor my alone time by enjoying my coffee with a fiction book before hopping on the treadmill for a workout. From there, I’ll shower, read the daily passage from The Book of Awakening, meditate, visualize, and repeat my daily affirmation (if I’m struggling with something or stressed, it’s “May all beings suffering be happy and free,” or if I could use more self-confidence, it’s “I am unshakeable, I am unmovable, I am unflappable”). Lastly, I’ll finish with free-flow writing in my notebook to clear my mind, so I feel ready to dive into work and take on the day.

Instead of worrying about following the practices in order, figure out what works for you. Make The Miracle Morning work to your advantage. This might require some experimentation—give yourself time to get acquainted with the rituals and make adjustments as needed. Remember: No morning routine is one-size-fits-all.

Start as soon as you wake up

As tempting as it is to hit the snooze button, I’ve found that staying in bed after my alarm goes off (whether to sleep more or scroll on my phone) leaves me groggy and unmotivated. So, I always make sure to get out of bed right when my alarm sounds. Hitting snooze takes away precious (limited) time that could be spent fitting in your Miracle Morning. But if you don’t feel ready to hop out of bed right away, you don’t have to: You can start your Miracle Morning by keeping your book of choice or journal by your bed or sitting in silence and taking some deep breaths before your feet hit the floor.

Plan it out the night before

Most people dread their alarm going off the next morning. Imagine how much better you’d feel every day if you were excited to wake up the next day. According to Elrod, setting an intention ahead of time can trick your mind into feeling more awake. Plan out your Miracle Morning—your affirmation, movement, journaling prompt—the night before so you have a purpose as soon as you open your eyes. While I’m a morning person who doesn’t have trouble getting out of bed, going to sleep with a positive motive for the following day not only shifts my mindset for the better, but it also allows me to relinquish whatever fears or worries are troubling me at the moment—and I get a better night’s rest because of it.

Costco has long been a destination to get your high-quality favorites at a more affordable price. Yes, it comes with the caveat of purchasing enough to feed a small army. Still, with rumors of Kirkland leggings made in the same factory as Lululemon and its signature vodka being the same as Grey Goose (an urban legend Grey Goose has denied), you can’t deny their products are incredible. But unfortunately, a new recall is coming for one of my personal favorite Costco purchases, Kirkland prosecco, and the defect is dangerous… and a little ironic. Here’s everything you need to know about the Costco prosecco recall.

Which Costco prosecco is being recalled?

In a message sent out to customers, Costco warned members who purchased the Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene between April 26, 2025, and August 26, 2025 (item #1879870) in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, or South Dakota that the recall could impact their bottle. Specifically, they’re at risk for the bottle exploding and shattering, even before it’s opened. If you have a bottle, be very careful; they can explode even when not being handled or used. Shards of glass everywhere? That’s not the kind of popping bottles we’re interested in…

costco prosecco recall

What should you do if you have the recalled Costco prosecco?

The risk of handling these bottles is so high that Costco is instructing customers not to even return them to the store. Instead, they recommend throwing away the bottle immediately by carefully wrapping the unopened prosecco bottle in paper towels and placing it in a plastic bag before disposing of it in the garbage. Then, you can bring an email or letter you should have received if you were an affected customer to Costco for a full refund. If you have any questions, you can also reach out to Ethica Wines at customercare@ethicawines.com or call their customer service at (786) 810- 7132.

Every season comes with a reset, and fall is no exception: Tanks give way to knits, denim makes its grand return, and layers become the glue that hold every outfit together. And while plenty of fabrics resurface, suede is the one that feels most synonymous with the season. It’s timeless, textured, and this year, bigger than ever.

On the runways, suede was impossible to miss. Chloé leaned into sharp tailoring, Ralph Lauren revisited his Western roots, and Louis Vuitton gave fringe a modern twist. From knee-high boots to slouchy bucket bags, the ’70s influence was unmistakable, cementing suede as fall’s most-wanted texture.

But this resurgence isn’t just for the runway circuit. Brands across the spectrum are reimagining suede in updated silhouettes and fresh shades—think deep indigo, moss green, even chartreuse—at price points that don’t require a splurge. Whether you’re ready to commit to a jacket or just dip into the fashion trend with an accessory, suede is the one piece guaranteed to make your fall wardrobe feel instantly more polished.

Suede Jackets

Suede jackets are arguably the star of this fashion trend, with fringe-trimmed and streamlined silhouettes alike making their way into the spotlight. The key to styling one is all about balance. Keep the rest of your look simple—straight-leg denim, a white tee, ballet flats—and let the jacket do the work of pulling the outfit together.

The post These Gentle Routine Shifts Are the Secret to Romanticizing Your Workdays This Fall appeared first on The Everygirl.

]]>

If I know one thing about myself, it’s that I’m definitely not cut out for hustle culture. I’m not sure any of us are, to be honest. I love setting big goals, tracking my progress, and celebrating my wins—but running myself into the ground to get there is not really the success blueprint I’m looking to follow. And yet, as the early days of fall usher in those crisp evenings and fall wardrobe trends, something far less romantic is also rustling beneath the leaves: Q4 pressures. My favorite season, full of yummy candles and knit sweaters, is suddenly eclipsed by a four-month sprint into holiday monetization, end-of-year goals, and inbox overload, making running myself into the ground seemingly inevitable at this point in the year.

Needless to say, I’ve become desperate for any small, mindful ritual to keep myself equally focused and grounded, amidst the fall grind. The solution? Romanticizing my physical work routine, along with the mindset I’m bringing into it, so I remember why I’m doing it all in the first place. These little shifts don’t necessarily erase the deadlines or the hustle my work life calls for, but they do keep Q4 from making me go into a full burnout hibernation.

Sometimes it’s as simple as lighting a candle before opening my laptop to give my work desk that main character reassurance I forget I have. Other times, it’s choosing a 10-minute walk under crisp fall air with “Folklore” in my earbuds, instead of 10 minutes scrolling TikTok. Added up, they’ve already begun to make my days more enjoyable and productive. Ahead, more ways I am choosing to romanticize my work routine this fall, and how you can include them, too.

1. Remember what you like about your job

If you’re working a job that doesn’t make you leap out of bed every morning, you’re not alone. Having to work for a living isn’t something that most of us want to do, but that doesn’t mean you should view it as a chore and slog through the day. Waiting until 5 p.m. or Friday to roll around is no way to live. Instead, start to think about what you actually like about your job as you approach your workday, even if it’s a small thing.

I love writing and the flow I get into while strategizing and editing other people’s work, so I am choosing to focus on that part of my role and reminding myself how lucky I am to get paid to do that. It might sound fluffy, but I find myself having fewer Sunday scaries this way. So far, I have more enjoyment during my day because I am making an effort to focus on the positives of my career.

2. Make tiny upgrades to your workspace

I don’t know about everyone else, but sometimes I get so set on the functionality of my office that I don’t take the time to optimize it for what I actually like. To create a space that makes me feel like the main character in a cozy fall rom-com, I am revamping my home office. I’m bringing in some fall decor, hanging aesthetic prints from Etsy, and swapping out my clunky black office chair for a cute beige fuzzy one (that still supports my back, because that’s key!). When your workspace is mindfully created to be both enjoyable and functional, you will be more productive.

READ: 30 Desk Essentials for Romanticizing Your Workdays This Fall

“When your workspace is mindfully created to be both enjoyable and functional, you will be more productive.”

If you’re in a physical office or have less ability to modify your space, focus on the small things to make your day more enjoyable: always have a soft sweater or blanket nearby if it gets cold, keep photos you love on your desk, and have a stash of your favorite pens or office supplies ready to go. I also recommend that everyone update their laptop background photo to something seasonal and inspiring (*cough* The Everygirl monthly backgrounds *cough*). It might seem trivial, but the little things can really impact your overall mindset each day.

3. Plan your breaks

If taking a work break often looks like scarfing down a granola bar while scrolling TikTok for 10 minutes, only to jump immediately back to your computer or hop on the next call, listen up! I am usually in the same camp, but it’s the opposite of being slow and intentional. My breaks need to change for the sake of actually enjoying my career, so I am starting to plan out what they look like at the beginning of the day.

I like to take a phone-free walk outside, spend some extra time brewing a special coffee drink and drinking it on my balcony, or use my time to play with my dogs or call my mom. By actually taking a break and giving my brain time to not be online or productive, I am noticing that I feel refreshed and ready to pick back up when I sit back down at my desk. This calmness is trickling through the rest of my day, giving me perspective and helping me feel less overwhelmed.

4. Engage all of your senses

When I started to think about how I could slow down my day and be more present, I quickly discovered that engaging all of the senses is key. To bring this into my day and freelance work, I am dedicated to covering all my bases before work. For smell, I am lighting candles, and for touch, I am wearing clothing that is comfortable instead of stuffy corporate wear or yesterday’s sweats. For sound, I’m playing soft folk or instrumental playlists, and I’m sipping on fruit-infused water, coffee, or tea for taste. Finally, for sight, I am hanging new art and making an updated vision board with some aspirational career goals. These are small things, but they make my day feel much more enjoyable and remind me that my 9-5 can be more pleasurable if I put a little effort in.

5. Set boundaries that work for you

Setting healthy boundaries is a key part of making your work days more mindful. If you’re spending all of your time accommodating other people’s needs or doing things you don’t want to do, you’re going to feel resentful and burnt out pretty quickly, instead of relaxed and motivated. When it comes to your career, take some time to consider if you can take on another task with your current workload or if you want to volunteer for that extracurricular before signing up. Then, chat with coworkers about what your ideal workday looks like so they can be aware.

“Adding more calm to your day comes down to being mindful about how you will take action.”

I chatted with my manager earlier this month and was able to delegate projects that were less interesting to me so I could focus more on the work I enjoyed. This, in turn, has allowed me to finish work by 5 p.m. more often. It is also giving me back my evenings so I can focus on new hobbies, self-care, and socializing. This has made me a lot happier and more relaxed overall.

6. Take your time

Slowing down and being mindful is something I desperately need to try to pull into my fall work days, especially because I receive constant emails and never-ending Slack messages. After taking a closer look at my habits, I am shocked at how often I immediately drop everything for someone else. I respond to an email or hop on a call without taking a moment to collect myself first. This makes me feel like I never have enough time in the day (plus my stress levels jump with each *ping*).

READ: 6 Email Hacks That Keep Me From Spiraling Every Time I Open My Inbox

This season, I am implementing the rule of waiting a bit before responding to messages or calls to ease my anxiety levels. So far, it is helping to reduce the amount of back-and-forth needed since I am stopping to really examine an ask or question before responding. This isn’t to say you should ignore everything or completely disregard all deadlines (definitely don’t do that). But it’s worth remembering that not everything is an emergency. Adding more calm to your day comes down to being mindful about how you will take action. Your peace at work is worth slowing down for!

7. Dedicate a portion of your morning to yourself

Seriously, I can’t overstate how different my days feel when I actually carve out moments for myself before diving into my work day. It’s not exactly a revolutionary idea—my TikTok has been preaching the importance of a morning routine for years—but during the madness that is Q4, it’s never been more crucial.

I remember back in my PR days, I worked on a later schedule than most of my team on EST, so by the time I rolled out of bed, my Slack was already a tidal wave of messages and tags. Paralyzed by the fear of being “behind,” my (avoidably) overstimulated self couldn’t help but check them immediately. Simultaneously, tossing any “me time” out the window before my eyes could even adjust to them. Once I tasted the effects of an actual morning routine, the difference in how I feel during my work day has been nothing short of revolutionary.

It can be as simple as making tea before opening my laptop—a moment to wake up, check in with myself, and remember I’m also a human. Ironically, this act of self-love can make the work itself better as well. Because my brain isn’t immediately flooded with Slack pings and mental clutter the second I wake up, I feel more alert, productive, creative, and happy during the work day. And that’s exactly the kind of energy I need to hold onto to enjoy work during my favorite season.

]]>

As someone who’s been watching Gilmore Girls on repeat since it first hit the airwaves in the early 2000s, I can confidently say no one loves Stars Hollow more than I do. From the quirky town traditions (and even quirkier residents) to its cozy New England charm, Stars Hollow feels like a home away from home. It may not be a real place, but it holds a special place in my heart, and every fall, I find myself wishing I could walk around the town square or participate in one of the many town festivals. Luckily, there are plenty of real-life small towns across the U.S. that have the same cozy feel, complete with charming shops, seasonal events, and scenery that’s straight out of a postcard.

So, if you’re also craving a fall getaway that feels like stepping into a Gilmore Girls episode, read on for a list of the seven small towns that capture the same nostalgic, feel-good energy of everyone’s favorite fictional town. Just don’t forget to pack a chunky sweater or your favorite flannel.

1. Woodstock, Vermont

stars hollow, woodstock vermont
Source: @jessannkirby

With cobblestone streets, covered bridges, and incredible fall foliage, this New England town feels like the set of Gilmore Girls IRL. When summer comes to a close, crisp air and crunchy leaves turn Woodstock into an ideal fall getaway. Stop by F.H. Gillingham & Sons general store for some Vermont maple syrup and locally made cookies, then check out the seasonal events and horse-drawn carriage rides (Lorelai’s favorite) at Billings Farm & Museum.

You’ll also want to grab brunch at Mon Vert Café before popping into Yankee Bookshop, Vermont’s oldest independent bookstore, to browse their selection. If you’re visiting in early October, don’t miss the town’s annual Woodstock Apples & Crafts Fair, where you’ll find homemade goods and cider doughnuts. Whether you’re staying at a cozy inn or just passing through for an afternoon, Woodstock is a fantastic place to soak up some small-town charm.

2. Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee

stars hollow, leiper’s fork tennessee

For a dose of Stars Hollow charm with a southern accent, head to Leiper’s Fork, located just outside Nashville. Touted as “Tennessee’s best-kept secret,” this town is small but packed with character. Think antique shops, art galleries, and front porch concerts that feel straight out of a town festival episode. Sit by the fire pit at Creek Gallery, shop for souvenirs at The Copper Fox (which is situated in a restored 1860s home), and, in true Gilmore Girls fashion, grab coffee from The RedByrd Coffee Shop. This tiny village is charming, unexpected, and exactly the kind of place where Lorelai would escape to if she ever needed a break from Connecticut.

3. Lanesboro, Minnesota

stars hollow, lanesboro, minnesota

If Stars Hollow traded in its gazebo for a riverside trail and had a Midwestern twist, it’d feel a lot like Lanesboro. This small town is full of charm with a historic downtown, quirky art scene, and the kind of everybody-knows-everybody feel that would make Taylor Doose proud. Start your visit with breakfast at Home Sweet Home Café, then stop by The Peddler to browse through vintage treasures and handmade goods. You can also catch a show at the Commonweal Theatre (Miss Patty would approve) before heading back to your room at one of the town’s many B&Bs (Lanesboro is known as the “bed & breakfast capital of Minnesota”). It’s the perfect place to lean into your dreams of staying at The Dragonfly Inn and enjoy a weekend of cozy, small-town vibes.

4. Camden, Maine

stars hollow, camden maine
Source: Clay Banks | Unsplash

Camden is the coastal grandmother version of Stars Hollow. This harbor town offers the best of both worlds: crisp air and colorful foliage plus ocean views and cozy seaside restaurants. Start your morning off with coffee and pastries from Zoot Coffee, then browse around the local shops like Owl & Turtle Bookshop Café (yes, it’s both a bookstore and a café) and The Smiling Cow, a gift shop that’s been around since the 1940s. If you’re feeling adventurous, hike to the top of Mount Battie in Camden Hills State Park for picturesque views before grabbing dinner on the waterfront. You can also catch performances at the Camden Opera House or browse the Camden Art Walk, which happens every third Thursday through October. The crowds typically die down after summer, making fall the perfect time to visit and enjoy this charming town.

5. Saugatuck, Michigan

stars hollow, saugatuck michigan
Source: Aaron Burden | Unsplash

Saugatuck is the kind of place that makes you want to wear your coziest flannel, pick apples, and sip warm beverages. Known as one of Michigan’s most artistic communities, this town is full of charm, from the murals and art studios to the seasonal markets and live music. In the fall, the town turns into a cozy haven with colorful trees, crisp lake air, and a walkable downtown decked out with pumpkins and mums. You can stroll the tree-lined streets, shop at locally owned boutiques like Endora and Lulu Cadieux, and sip coffee from Uncommon Coffee Roasters. To take advantage of the gorgeous scenery, take a quiet shoreline walk along Oval Beach, or visit Mount Baldhead Park, where you’ll get panoramic views of Lake Michigan. Want more fall flair? Head just outside of town to Crane Orchards for apple picking, fresh cider, and pie flights (we all know how much Lorelai loves pie).

6. Beacon, New York

stars hollow, beacon new york
Source: Dominique Stueben | Unsplash

Members of Team Jess will feel right at home in Beacon. Just under two hours away from NYC by train, this artsy small town has everything brooding bad boys (and girls like Rory) love: indie shops, record stores, and cafés. Spend the morning wandering around Dia Beacon, a massive modern art museum inside a converted factory, then grab lunch at Beacon Quality Eats or shop for vintage finds along Main Street. If you’re feeling outdoorsy, hike Mount Beacon for views that are well worth the climb. Or skip the hike and just enjoy browsing the Beacon Farmers Market with a coffee in hand. Either way, this is the perfect fall day trip if you want to experience Stars Hollow with a little edge.

7. Washington Depot, Connecticut

This one’s for serious Gilmore Girls fans. If you’re looking to get the true Stars Hollow experience, Washington Depot is the destination. This town is widely believed to be the real-life inspiration for Stars Hollow, and it definitely lives up to the hype. The town square, quaint shops, and slow-paced vibe make it the perfect place to spend a cozy fall weekend. Visit The Pantry for a latte and breakfast, check out the Hickory Stick Bookshop (where you can grab a copy of one of Rory’s favorite novels), and explore Hidden Valley Preserve for scenic walking trails and stunning fall foliage. With cozy inns and locals who greet you with a smile, Washington Depot is the kind of town that makes you want to move there and fall in love with the local diner owner.

The post I Tried the Therapy App Everyone’s Using—Here’s Why I Prefer It to In-Person Sessions appeared first on The Everygirl.

]]>

I’ve been going to therapy on and off for over 10 years. I’ve sat on the leather couch, sipped the free sparkling water, and listened to the hum of a sound machine drowning out the session happening next door

For a while, I thought I had it down: daily meditations, beta blockers for high-stress days, restorative yoga, and breathing techniques to reel myself back in.

But at 28, a new kind of anxiety hit, and suddenly my usual tools weren’t cutting it. Finding a new therapist the traditional way felt overwhelming: intake forms, referrals, insurance hoops. Around that time, I kept hearing ads for BetterHelp on one of my favorite podcasts.I was hesitant, but with my schedule packed and a constant layer of impending doom hanging over me, I knew I needed support fast.

Why I decided to try BetterHelp

When I moved in with my partner last year, my anxiety shifted into new territory. Suddenly, every normal life hiccup turned into a catastrophic what-if. If she took too long to find her keys, I convinced myself she had fainted in the kitchen. If she twitched in her sleep, I spiraled into diagnosing incurable neurological conditions. Before I knew it, I was crying along with widows on GriefTok as though I’d already lost her—while she sat next to me, wondering if I’d lost it.

After a few sleepless nights obsessing over her very normal sleep twitching, I knew I needed to talk to someone ASAP. Traditional therapy didn’t feel accessible in the moment, but BetterHelp promised an easier, faster way to get started.

Getting matched with the right BetterHelp therapist

I’ll admit it: I love an online quiz. And the BetterHelp intake quiz did not disappoint. It was thorough enough that I felt confident about my match, but quick enough that I didn’t abandon it halfway through.

Because I’d worked with different therapists before, I had a sense of what I was looking for. I requested someone with a more direct approach, who had experience with anxiety and the LGBTQIA+ community.

What made me feel even more at ease was realizing how large the BetterHelp network actually is—tens of thousands of licensed therapists, each with real-world experience. It gave me peace of mind that I’d find someone who could meet me where I was.

Within 36 hours, I was matched with a therapist who met my criteria, and she had availability the very next day.

My first session with BetterHelp

To be completely honest, my first session didn’t go perfectly. I accidentally scheduled it on a day I had to be in the office, which meant trying to join from a nearby park, and of course, my headphones didn’t work.

But instead of it being awkward, my therapist was incredibly kind and offered to reschedule for the next day when I’d be more comfortable at home. That flexibility alone felt different from my past therapy experiences.

I was nervous at first: Would video therapy feel impersonal? What if I didn’t click with her? But once we started talking, I knew I had nothing to worry about. My therapist—an older woman with silver hair and the warmest energy—immediately put me at ease. She asked me a few intake questions, explained her approach (a mix of mindfulness and tangible daily practices), and even sent me resources and a worksheet before our next session.

Joining the video call was seamless. BetterHelp works from both desktop and mobile apps, so I could log in from wherever I was.

What surprised me about BetterHelp

When I first signed up, I assumed BetterHelp would be a temporary solution until I found an in-person therapist. But after a month, I realized I prefer it. Here’s why:

 • Flexibility and convenience: I can schedule sessions around my day—whether it’s between meetings, while traveling, or in the evenings from my couch. And on days when I’m not up for a video call, I can switch to a phone or chat session instead of skipping altogether.
 • The ability to change therapists: In the past, I’ve stuck with therapists who weren’t a great fit because I dreaded the awkward “breakup” conversation. With BetterHelp, I could switch providers in the app with just a few clicks, no guilt attached.
 • Affordability: My previous in-person sessions cost around $150 each, which meant I sometimes skipped weeks I couldn’t afford. With BetterHelp, the pricing is clearer and more flexible. I know exactly what I’ll pay, and I can adjust the frequency of my sessions depending on my budget.
 • Effectiveness: I honestly didn’t expect online therapy to feel as impactful as in-person, but the tools and strategies my therapist has already given me have been helping me feel more grounded when anxious thoughts come up—something I wasn’t getting from just journaling or meditating on my own.

Beyond just the personal experience, BetterHelp also makes therapy feel accessible and convenient. The platform has over 30,000 licensed therapists across a range of specialties—from anxiety and depression to relationship support and career guidance—so it’s easy to find someone who fits your needs. Plans start as low as $65 a week, depending on factors such as your location, referral source, preferences, therapist availability, and any applicable discounts or promotions (billed weekly or every four weeks). Subscriptions include weekly video or phone sessions, asynchronous in-app messaging with your therapist, and tools like a shared journal, goal tracking, and a built-in scheduling system. You can also join group sessions or browse live classes focused on everything from stress management to self-esteem—making it feel like support is always within reach.

BetterHelp Review

Three things to keep in mind if you want to try BetterHelp

Starting therapy, especially online, can feel a little intimidating at first. But with a few small steps, you can make the experience feel more personal, more effective, and a lot more comfortable. Here’s what to keep in mind before your first session:

1. Be specific in your intake quiz

This is your chance to be honest about what you’re looking for, whether it’s managing anxiety, working through a breakup, or simply wanting someone to talk to. The more details you share, the better your therapist match will be.

2. Don’t be afraid to switch therapists

If it doesn’t feel like a fit, it’s OK to try someone new. BetterHelp makes it easy (and judgment-free) to switch therapists at any time. This is your space, and finding the right person matters.

3. Create a space that feels safe and quiet

Since sessions happen virtually, a little prep goes a long way. Set up in a personal, calm spot where you feel comfortable speaking freely, whether that’s your bedroom, a parked car, or a cozy corner with your laptop and headphones.

Why BetterHelp works for me

Of course, BetterHelp may not be the right fit if you’re looking for in-person support or prefer long-term, specialized care. But for me right now, BetterHelp makes more sense. In-person therapy is great, but it’s slow to start, harder to access, and more expensive. BetterHelp, on the other hand, is convenient, flexible, and easier to fit into my life when I need extra support. Unlike past experiences where I waited weeks just to get an intake appointment, I was able to start within days.

I know therapy itself can feel intimidating—whether you’ve never tried it before or, like me, you’ve bounced around a few different counselors. BetterHelp made the process less overwhelming, and just starting was half the battle.

Instead of spiraling alone, I finally feel like I have support, structure, and a plan again. It hasn’t “fixed” everything overnight, but it’s helped me feel more grounded and less like I’m battling my thoughts by myself.

Madewell’s fall collection just dropped, and it might be the brand’s best yet. The brand was once known exclusively for its denim (which, let’s be honest, still hits after all these years). But Madewell has evolved into a closet mainstay that delivers on every front—outerwear, accessories, footwear, you name it—and this season is no exception.

The fall lineup is stacked with everything I want to wear right now. The fresh denim silhouettes in classic straight and relaxed fits, supple suede outerwear that instantly elevates, boho-inspired tops made for layering, and unique accessories are already climbing to the top of my wish list. In short, it’s the kind of collection that makes you want to reimagine your entire wardrobe.

Naturally, I had to put a few pieces to the test IRL. The standouts? A suede chore blazer I never want to take off, low-slung baggy jeans that deliver effortless off-duty vibes, and studded ballet flats that bring just the right amount of edge to the year’s most-wanted shoe trend. In other words, the frontrunners of my fall style lineup. Scroll on to shop my Madewell favorites—from my in-store try-on to the pieces still lingering in my cart.

Madewell Fall Pieces I Can’t Stop Thinking About

The Low-Slung Baggy Utility Pants

I didn’t think utility pants could read this chic, but Madewell proved me wrong. The fabric is unbelievably soft and buttery, making them just as comfortable as they are elevated. They’re the kind of year-round staple that goes from a white ribbed tank in summer to a chunky knit come fall. I opted for the regular length here, which means they pair perfectly with a heeled ankle boot—or, if you prefer flats, a quick hem would do the trick. Equal parts WFH-friendly and office-ready, these pants are the definition of versatile.

The Mylie Ballet Flats

The Mylie Ballet Flats gave me sticker shock, but in the best way possible. With shoe prices climbing sky-high, finding a suede, studded pair under $150 feels like a small miracle. The fit is spot-on thanks to the higher upper (translation: no toe cleavage—bless you, Madewell). And the color options are just as good as the price. Think: baby blue suede, espresso brown, or a playful cow print. Finally, a functional and stylish flat—no compromises required.

The Long Chore Blazer in Suede

madewell chore jacket
Source: Tinsley Crisp

This was the very first piece to catch my eye when I walked into the store, and for good reason. I’ve been on the hunt for a suede jacket that doesn’t skew too Western or too rocker (easy on the hardware, please), and this strikes the perfect balance. Yes, it’s an investment, but it’s one that feels worth every penny. Suede only gets better with age, and this classic cut will never go out of style. I wore it out on a chilly night in NYC and received more compliments than I can count. Trust me, this is the jacket you’ll be glad you bought five years from now.

The Top-Zip Shoulder Bag

Last year, I nearly blew my budget on a suede bag, but thankfully, I held off. Madewell’s new collection offers a handful of suede options that rival the luxe versions for a fraction of the price, including this sleek top-zip shoulder bag. The east-west shape feels both on-trend and timeless, and trust me, it looks even better IRL. The only drawback? The color selection is almost too good—three shades, all equally irresistible, making it nearly impossible to pick just one.

I’ve already worn these jeans a dozen times and counting. I’m 5 foot 3 inches and the cropped hem hits more like a full-length on me (which, honestly, is exactly how I like it). I hesitated when I saw the words “low-slung” on the tag, but on the body they sit closer to the hip—if not a touch higher—and are surprisingly flattering. The look is perfectly relaxed with a tee and sneakers, but add a kitten heel and a blazer, and suddenly they’re night-out approved.

We all know there’s no better feeling than a fresh manicure. Your entire life could be in shambles, but with the right polish, conquering your daunting to-do list suddenly feels feasible. But I’d argue that a manicure alone isn’t enough. Call me high-maintenance, but to truly feel put together, I need perfectly coordinated fingers and toes. That doesn’t mean I’m dropping hundreds at the salon every three weeks, I’ve perfected my DIY nail kit, and my go-to OPI mani-pedi pairings guarantee a fabulous result every time. Sure, now that it’s fall, I may not be rocking open-toed kitten heels or summer sandals, but these combos still turn heads—even with your foot shoved into a snow boot. Here are the fall OPI nail colors I’ll be wearing all season long.

The trees may be shedding their green leaves, but I’m embracing them on my nails for fall. These nails feel like a cozy, rainy fall day. With chartreuse as the color of the year, these greens will definitely be trendy fall nail colors, too.

It’s only natural that one of the best OPI shades for fall is Lincoln Park After Dark; after all, it is a classic. It’s a purple so dark it almost looks black, which is why it looks so good next to an actual black nail polish shade. It really brings out the purple while delivering a witchy vibe apt for spooky season.
